We know that the emotional support available to colleagues following critical incidents is an important topic and this type of support remains a priority for the organisation.
A critical incident is any situation faced by an individual that may cause them to experience unusually strong reactions that can interfere with work and home.
This policy now sets out the support that is available to our staff following a critical incident, to lessen the impact and reduce the likelihood of long-term detriment through a consistent, coordinated and effective approach.
It also highlights the processes that are in place to support staff following a critical incident.
More Information
Although this policy sets out the support available to staff following a critical incident, this doesn't mean that support can only be accessed at this time.
We now have a pool of 15 volunteer staff members from across the service who can be called upon as and when required to carry out the CIW sessions. They have undertaken an intensive training course provided by the British Red Cross.
