Display Screen Equipment (DSE) – New assessment and training

New DSE assessment form and training

In line with legislative requirements, Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments should be undertaken for any member of staff using DSE daily for 1 hour or more at a time – this may also apply to operational staff. An assessment should be completed for each workplace / workstation used by staff. This includes many colleagues currently working from home.

Where DSE assessments have been completed for individuals at their current workstations, there is not a need to repeat this process unless substantial changes have been made to the equipment or work environment or it is thought that any controls / equipment utilised may be causing or exacerbating other problems. Further guidance on the completion of DSE assessments and when reviews are necessary is available within the NEW DSE assessment form (available via SYFR staff intranet) – please note this also includes a requirement for completed DSE forms to be sent to HR for inclusion on personnel files.

Colleagues working with DSE or managing staff working with DSE are now required to undertake the NEW SYFR learnPro training (Display Screen Equipment Assessment (Managing DSE)). This is available within the learnPro ‘Core Competence Modules’ and provides a useful introduction into why DSE assessments are required, tips and guidance and how this process can be supported.

For any queries on completing DSE assessments then please contact your line manager or a member of the Occupational Health Service or H&S Team.
